The Story Behind Every Dreamtimez Hat

Every Dreamtimez fly net hat starts long before it reaches a shelf — it starts in a gallery in Glenelg, South Australia.

Where it began

Dreamtimez was born out of the Glenelg Art Gallery, owned by Dreamtimez Co-Director Rowena. The brand's founding moment is a simple one: an artist arrived at the gallery needing payment for their work immediately. That moment became the seed of something bigger than a single sale — a business built around making sure Indigenous artists are paid properly, consistently, and on an ongoing basis, not just once.

That's still the model today. Dreamtimez pays ongoing royalties to the artists whose work appears on its hats and homewares, and holds membership with the Indigenous Art Code, the industry body that sets ethical standards for dealing with Indigenous artists and their art.

The artists behind the artwork

Every pattern on a Dreamtimez hat belongs to a real artist with a real story. Rhubee Neale, one of the artists whose work features on Dreamtimez products, was named the 2024 SA NAIDOC Creative Artist of the Year — recognition that speaks to the calibre of the art you're actually wearing when you put on one of these hats.

This is part of what separates Dreamtimez from a hat that simply has "Indigenous-style" print on it: the art is licensed, the artists are named, and the money keeps flowing back to them long after the first sale.

More than a hat

Part of the proceeds from every Dreamtimez purchase goes to the Royal Flying Doctor Service — a cause that matters directly to the rural and remote communities Dreamtimez's customers often call home.

So when you put on a Dreamtimez hat, you're wearing more than fly protection. You're wearing a licensed piece of Australian Indigenous art, supporting the artist behind it, and contributing to a service that keeps the outback safer.
